CHaRM SUPPORT SPECIALIST
Solid Waste Disposal Authority of Baldwin County AlabamaLocation : Orange Beach, AL - This position requires reporting to multiple locations (Fairhope, Summerdale, Orange Beach and future locations- Robertsdale, Spanish Fort), as needed, to support various operational needs across our organization.
Schedule: Monday through Friday 9:30 am – 6:30 pm and Saturdays 6:30 am-12:30 pm

Job Summary: The C.H.a.R.M. (Center for Hard-to-Recycle Materials) Support Specialist is a key representative of our company and its commitment to sustainability. This position involves assisting the public with proper disposal of hard-to-recycle items (such as electronics, paints, chemicals, appliances, and other specialty waste) and promoting our environmental initiatives. The CSS are responsible for handling payments, maintaining a clean and safe site, and ensuring excellent customer service. This role works closely with the Recycle Technician in ensuring that all materials are handled safely, efficiently, and in compliance with environmental regulations.
Essential Job Functions
· Greet, guide and assist customers through the drop-off process.
· Identify and recognize incoming materials by type and category.
· Collect and process payments for applicable services or materials.
· Represent the company and its recycling mission in a friendly, professional manner; Maintain effective working relationship with public.
· Educate customers about our recycling programs and acceptable materials. Provide information and answer questions about acceptable items and fees.
· Assist in sorting and organizing incoming items by type (plastic, cardboard, glass, electronics, chemicals, batteries, etc.).
· Assist in maintaining the overall cleanliness, safety, and organization of the facility.
· Assist in monitoring drop-off bins and coordinate scheduled pickups.
· Enforce all safety protocols and compliance with local and federal regulations.
· Track visitor numbers and record relevant data for internal use.
· Report operational issues, incidents, or concerns to supervisor.
· Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills, Abilities and Knowledge
General knowledge of basic accounting and basic mathematical operations; ability to maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public; ability to effectively communicate in a courteous manner; writing skills to clearly and neatly complete forms, receipts, permits, reports, etc. as needed; skills to understand written instructions, directives, manuals, laws and regulations; ability to operate a hand held radio, cell phone, calculator and tablet/computer.
Education and Experience
· Possess a high school diploma or GED.
· Experience in service-oriented field with heavy customer service preferred.
Special Requirements
· Must possess a valid Driver's License.
· Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays to complete work within a specified period of time.
· Willing to travel between sites and adaptability to different work environments.
· Must be willing to adhere to dress code standards, including wearing clean and neat attire, high-visibility uniforms, and safety-approved footwear and gloves as required.
· Strong communication skills and a customer-first attitude.
· Basic understanding of environmental and hazardous material handling (training provided).
· Comfortable managing cash/card transactions and maintaining accurate records
· Self-motivated and able to work independently while manning the site
Physical Requirements
· See well enough to read and write.
· Hear well enough to respond to verbal communications.
· Speak well enough to answer questions in a polite, courteous manner.
· Body movements of mobility to kneel, bend, move, stand, and lift.
· Able to stand or sit for long periods of time.
· The ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
· Tasks are regularly performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as extreme heat or extreme cold, dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances. Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, maintenance shops, HVAC systems, light to moderate traffic).
