Key Responsibilities

  • Takes verbal and written orders from physician and responds accordingly
  • Conducts initial intake including taking vital signs, height and weight
  • Pulls and assesses charts for completeness and documents in Electronic Medical Record
  • Prepares examination rooms for patients
  • Places patients in exam rooms and assists patients by supporting or lifting as required
  • Transports specimens to laboratory and conducts routine laboratory tests
  • Assists patients in wheelchairs or stretchers by lifting or directing as required
  • Performs procedures such as EKG, draws blood samples and obtains blood cultures
  • Cleans and stocks exam rooms
  • Provides back up to front desk staff, checks patients in and updates demographic information on a computerized system
  • Prepares charts, answers telephones and directs calls
  • Maintains medical records and other files
  • Communicates with physicians, patients, families and healthcare team using appropriate customer relation skills both in-person and via telephone
  • Responds to overhead pages and notifies Charge Nurse when leaving unit
  • Maintains accurate records by recording vital signs, refrigerator temperature, and blood culture logs
  • Completes all duties positively, cooperates with others and contributes to improved unit performance
  • Meets all mandatory unit, educational and hospital requirements
  • Utilizes cost-effective practices in performing all aspects of the job
  • Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
  • Provides competent patient care to Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric populations
  • Stocks supplies daily and checks expiration dates monthly
  • Cleans monitor cables between patients; maintains oxygen and suction equipment ready for use
  • Ensures blood culture contamination rates under 2%
  • Abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies in an ethical manner
  • Adheres to hospital policies including confidentiality, regular and prompt attendance, and ability to work defined schedules including overtime
  • Performs related duties as required

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and completion of a Medical Assistant or related healthcare training program
